The helicopter type 520N is a light helicopter with turbine propulsion for up to 5 seats. It is used for passenger transport, surveillance tasks and work flights. It has been flying since 1990 and is based on the Type 500E, from which it differs by the revolutionary no-tail rotor system. This system replaces the conventional tail rotor by blowing air through longitudinal slots in the tail boom and through a controllable nozzle at the tail end. The system is quiet and safer against foreign body contact. The 520N was the first no-tail-rotor helicopter in series production.

TYPICAL 520N

With this model the focus is on dimensional fidelity in the reproduction of the characteristic appearance. The design is based on original documents as well as on dimensions and details determined on the original helicopter, which are appropriately reproduced. The model has been designed in a CAD-system and the patterns are 3D-printed.

The tail-rotorless concept reduces the mechanical installation effort to a minimum: There are no longer any transmissions or drive shafts in the rear area. The entire drive unit of the mechanics, including the motor, blower system, servos and stabilization system, form a unit that is mounted on a platform above the cabin. At the end of the tail boom there is only a servo for adjusting the control nozzle.

In this model, the blower system has been implemented in a simplified way compared to the original helicopter and is part of the PLUS-MECHANICS 520N. The system was developed through calculations and a large number of tests on the test bench and in flight. It was optimized for convincing performance. A radial fan mounted directly on the long motor shaft supplies air through the tail boom. The air stream is deflected at the end and its intensity is controlled by a rotatable nozzle. As with a conventional tail rotor, the gyro provides the necessary control stability.

A little closer to the original: With the articulated, undamped landing gear, take-off is seamless. When touching down, the helicopter literally nestles against the ground. This makes these manoeuvres look real and at the same time control is much easier for the model pilot.

The already integrated inner structure is made of composites and is optimized to load and weight requirements. This eliminates the need to install a conventional wooden construction. Access to the interior is provided by doors that can be opened.

Overview:
- Significant sheet metal joints and other details, such as profiled air intakes, edges with
  matching radii
- Movable doors and engine cowlings with structured inner faces
- Articulated landing gear that not only reflects the original look, but also significantly
simplifies the take-off and landing process for the model pilot.
- Scale parts such as hinges, door handles, locks, lighting, control sticks and pedals
  according to original geometry.
- True-to-original star-shaped swashplate
- Already installed internal structure to accommodate mechanics and landing gear
- Optional, highly detailed model of the turbine that can be installed behind the engine
  cowling.
- Wide range of optional scale components
